Foundation & Degree Courses in The Visual & MEDIA Arts
The most common route to studying an arts subject at Degree Level is via a Foundation Course. This is a One-Year Full-Time course intended to help students choose a specific arts route and which supports students in their application to a degree.
Timeline of the year
JUNE - JULY: Foundation and degree shows are on, visit as many as you can to get a feel for the courses and institutions you are interested in. Progression week, starting to think about courses and begin personal statement writing.
SUMMER HOLIDAYS: Continue enrichment further reading, watching, visiting exhibitions, workshops or even work experience, pursue personal projects.

SEPTEMBER: Weekly after school sessions use these to talk through specific course options and review the start of your personal statement.
OCTOBER: Subjects should be running crits to help you talk about your work and that of your peers and we will run workshops such as life drawing to enrich your portfolios. NOVEMBER: You should be putting together your portfolio and showreels and using after school drop in sessions to get feedback and improve these. Early application deadline for Ravensbourne (great option for guaranteeing a place early) DECEMBER: UAL staff 1:1 portfolio reviews to help you get final feedback on your portfolio and personal statement. Personal statements completed and UCAS applications ready to send. JANUARY: Mock exams FEBRUARY: Deadlines for Foundation course applications. Weekly after school sessions continue to make final adjustments to portfolios and statements for Art college applications. |
MARCH - MAY: You will receive replies. Students can seek support for last minute applications or help making final decisions destinations.
